Springtime, a Season of Wildflowers and Waterfalls

You know that time of the year, when green pops break through and everything dormant comes back to life again: it’s Springtime! An Ozark family trip in the Spring means beautiful blooming dogwoods and Arkansas’ bright redbud trees. With a perfect range of mid-50s to mid-70s temperature, this is my personal favorite time to get outside!

We do tend to experience those April showers with some pretty intense storms this time of year, so pack your rain gear and check your weather apps.

If you’re planning a springtime Ozark vacation, be sure to check out some of the area’s incredible festivals and events. The annual Dogwood Festival in Fayetteville, AR celebrates the blooming trees that make the Ozarks so beautiful in the spring. And for a unique family-friendly event, don’t miss the Kite Festival in Eureka Springs. This event changes dates each year, but is always held at the end of April or early May.

Cool Off and Unwind During a Summer Ozark Family Vacation

Ah, summertime in the Ozarks! This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the region’s plethora of water activities. While you can expect some hot and humid days, there’s plenty of ways to cool off during your Ozark family vacation in the summer. Head to one of our many lakes, such as Lake Tenkiller or Lake of the Ozarks for a day of swimming, boating, or fishing. If you’re feeling adventurous try kayaking or floating on one of the area’s many scenic rivers.

If you decide to cool off in a lake or stream, plan ahead and bring your own river tube and inflation pump with car adapter so you can play in the water.

Summer is a time of celebration and the epitome of vacation fun. The Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Missouri is a beloved annual tradition held from Aug. 10-20th this year. You can check out live animal exhibits, see 3-Doors Down, and enjoy carnival rides and games. Other summer area festivals include the Branson Landing Summer Concert Series, Tontitown Grape Festival, and Fayetteville Roots Festival.

Fall Foliage, Festivals, and Fun

Autumn in the Ozarks is a magical time of year. The cooler temperatures and changing colors create a breathtaking landscape that’s perfect for outdoor adventures and scenic drives. Heads up, peak leaf season is late October through early November. The air is crisp and refreshing, and the crowds of summer have thinned out, making it an ideal time to explore the natural beauty of the region.

Fall is also harvesting season, with many local farmers and orchards offering apple picking and pumpkin patches. Don’t forget about the Castle in Muskogee’s Halloween adventures, which include activities for all ages – from little kids to teens and adults.

Fall is a time of harvest celebration here in the Ozarks. The Arkansas State Fair is the highlight of the season offering rides, games, concerts, and delicious fair food. Speaking of food, the National Harvest Festival at Silver Dollar City (Sept 21st – Oct 29) is a must-visit for pumpkin lovers with vendors offering all kinds of pumpkin-flavored treats and thousands of beautifully carved and illuminated gourds. For a quieter vibe, the War Eagle Mill Fall Arts (Oct 19-22, 2023) is the pace to be with over 300 vendors showcasing handmade crafts, artworks, and more. So, put your boots on, pull your favorite cozy sweater over your head, and throw a little dog in a purse when you get ready to experience the best of fall in the Ozarks.

Winter Wonders in the Ozarks

While the Ozarks may not be known for snowy landscapes, it’s still a season of wonder. The crisp air and quiet surrounding provide a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The city is transformed into a winter wonderland with over a million twinkling lights and festive decorations. Take a ride on the Branson Ferris Wheel, which is adorned with more than 16,000 LED lights, or enjoy a cup of hot cocoa while strolling throughout the city.
